Frequently Asked Questions
Q:  What Assessment do you use?

A:  ABA Learning Solutions uses the new and current VB-MAPP (Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and
Placement Program) assessment by Mark L. Sundberg.  This assessment is a criterion based assessment that compares
your child's progress to themselves as well as to developmental milestones of typically developing peers.  Overall, the VB-
MAPP assesses developmental milestones (including language, play, and social skills), barriers to learning, and transitions
to less restrictive environments and less intensive teaching environments. There is also a more details skills assessment and
tracking assessment if necessary.

The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) may also be used or in combination with the VB-
MAPP.  This is a criterion based assessment based on verbal behavior by Sundberg and Partington which many
professionals use.

The behavior analyst is also able to conduct other assessments on an individualized basis.

Q:  What are the rates for services?

A:  Please contact the behavior analyst for current rates for both the behavior analyst and behavioral therapists.  The
behavioral therapist rates are based on our continued education
module system.

Q:  How many hours of therapy are optimal?

A:  Typically 20 hours per week is optimal for young children 1-2 years old or children just beginning an intensive home
program.  For children 2-3 years or older, 30 hours or more of services is optimal.  Hours can be covered by the
consultant, behavioral therapists, parents, and/or other service providers (i.e. speech services).  For more detailed
information see the
ABA/General ABA Program Information section.

Q:  How long do you recommend a home program is in place?

A: Typically an intensive program is in place for 2-3 years before a decision is made for a next step.  The BCBA generally
recommends re-assessing every 6 months to make decisions for program changes (i.e.  increasing hours, decreasing
hours, adding social groups/sessions, school integration).  Early learners start out with a more structured and intense ABA
program based on a foundation of important skills.  Some children are able to advance to a less intense program that
focuses on theory of mind and social thinking.  For more detailed information see the
ABA/General ABA Program
Information section.

Q:  What will my child's progress be?

A:  There is no way to predict how a child will progress.  We strive for high expectations for all children and use flexible,
natural, and individualized teaching methodologies with each child.

Q:  How often will the consultant see my child?

A:  It is recommended that the consultant is scheduled with your child for a minimum of one session per week.  This will
give the behavior analyst the opportunity to get to know your child, make the best decisions, and be there regularly to
make ongoing updates and decisions.  ABA Learning Solutions is a small group so each client will get the attention they
need.
